Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara is a famous American performer and actress, both of Irish origin. The green-eyed beauty sporting flaming red hair was famous for her fiery and passionate parts in numerous American films. Her attractive appearance and natural beauty was well-loved. She was known in Hollywood as the "Queen of Technicolor". The characters she played on screen reflected her brave, strong spirit that struggled for recognition and survival in a male-dominated world. She was always a "tough Irish lass" who was never willing to compromise her respect and reputation in order to secure the roles she wanted through merit. She was a fervent advocate for female actors in television and film, and gained a large following as a result. Her autobiography, 'Tis Sheself", which was released in 2004, gave a candid and truthful story of her entire life experiences including her struggles while climbing the ladder to achieve success. She was an active woman who didn't hesitate in doing her own stunts. She was an actress in over 60 films over the years and was the recipient of a fair amount of international recognition. Following her departure from Parra, she married Charles F. Blair Jr. in 1968. He was a brigadier and chief pilot. He was also an innovator in transatlantic aviation. O'Hara finally retired after a few years of marriage. Blair however, died in a tragic plane crash in the year 1978. O'Hara's joy was only temporary. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer in the same year. She underwent an immediate operation. She was able to recover eventually. Over the next few years, her health began to decline and she suffered from six heart attacks, memory loss in the short term and diabetes mellitus type 2. On October 24, 2015 O'Hara peacefully expired in Boise, Idaho, from natural causes at 95.
