Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She was also twice an Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She was awarded a gold team medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals from this event. Raisman took home silver medals for the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman also took home silver medals in the individual all-around , as well as in floor exercise. She was also two times a national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She is also an all-time champion of the national all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver, 2011, 2012 and the year 2015). Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and says that "I am very grateful for being able to not just represent the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community all over the world." Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months old. She attributes her early interest in the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She studied at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year through online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
