Amy Carlson
Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy
Carlson spent most of her early life in the Chicago region. However, when Amy
was in junior high, she and her family also lived in the Middle East where her
parents, Bob and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy is the mother of two
sisters: Betsy and Lori, along with a brother Joe. Amy has traveled across
Europe with her family and also independently. Since her parents worked as
teachers and teachers, they could travel together every summer, and camping all
across the United States. They've stayed in every state, with the exception of
Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda to assist in efforts to aid in the aftermath of
the 1994 war. Amy showed her artistic talents early when she was acting in
school productions and taking part in writing competitions. In high school, she
was a promising athlete who placed in the very first 3200 meter relay at the
Illinois girls track. After a college injury, she returned to the theater with
many roles on stage. Her first was Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July"
as well as directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a
student at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where she graduated cum laude
with the degree of B.A. East Asian history, with a concentration in Theater. After
graduation, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at The Improv
Olympics and Acting at The Actor's Center. Shortly after graduation, she was
offered a permanent for the no-longer-running soap opera Another World (1964).
The category she was nominated for is "Outstanding support actress on an
Daytime Drama Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. Her
most memorable roles have been of strong women, such as Alex Taylor in Third
Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen alongside Tom
Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson resides
in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist of Les Savy Fav, where she
also operates in the business of independent music as part-owner of the
independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy continues to pursue
distinct and varied roles in the world of film.
